GWOB - The Girl Without Borders

Updated: Mar 8, 2022

You might be wondering where the name GWOB (Girl Without Borders) comes from.

Or maybe you're not, but I'm going to tell you anyway!

As I mentioned on my home page, I was born in France as a dual, US-Canadian citizen, and then spent the first four years of my life in Rwanda. After evacuating the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, my family moved around a bit before landing in Oregon, but I've been so fortunate to travel to nearly 30 countries.

My first big international trip since living in Oregon was to Thailand in 2007. After the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami that devastated Thailand and surrounding countries, I helped my dad co-found Klamath Basin Youth Without Borders *hint hint*, a local non-profit that partnered with Habitat for Humanity's Global Village Program. Our very first trip was to Thailand in '07, and then I also went on the Brazil trip in '09 before heading off to College. KBYWB did another trip to the Dominican Republic in 2011.

After graduating from the University of Oregon, I moved back to my hometown, and shortly after, took over Klamath Basin Youth Without Borders as the Director. As the ED, KBYWB did another three trips to Trinidad and Tobago, Macedonia, and our 10th anniversary trip back to Thailand in 2017. At one of our board meetings we were doing some get to know you activities since expanding our board with many new members, and one of them said "well, I'm just going to call you 'G-WOB' - the Girl Without Borders", and it stuck! Ok, so no one actually calls me that (lol), but it did sound like a great name for a blog. So, here we are.
