The Girl Without Borders

HELLO THERE!

I'm Stephanie, also known as the Girl Without Borders, but you can call me Steph.

I was born in France as a dual, US-Canadian citizen, and then spent the first four years of my life in Rwanda. After evacuating the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, my family moved around a bit before landing in Oregon, and I've called the PNW home ever since; with lots of travel, of course! Even though I grew up in a small, rural town, diversity and learning about different cultures remained an important pillar to my family, and I've been so fortunate to travel to nearly 30 countries and counting.

Travel (and travel blogging) have really taken off with social media; and that has it's pro's and con's. One of my biggest hopes with this blog is that it can allow others to learn about different cultures from the comfort of their own home, and inspire others to not only travel, but to truly experience another culture... it's about more than just that insta-worthy photo (although I do love a good photograph), it's about tasting authentic food, getting to know a stranger, and seeing a different way of life. Not only internationally, but also right here, in our own backyard(s).

"Eat at a local restaurant tonight. Get the cream sauce.

Have a cold pint at 4 o'clock in a mostly empty bar.

Go somewhere you've never been.

Listen to someone you think you may have nothing in common with.

Order the steak rare. Eat an oyster. Have a negroni. Have two.

Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree

with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyway.

Eat slowly. Tip your server.

Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride."
